An outdoor fireplace brings the look and function of an indoor hearth to a patio or backyard: a firebox, often with a mantel or surround, built to hold a real wood fire or a gas burner. Unlike a fire pit, which is typically open on all sides, an outdoor fireplace has a back and sides that direct heat and light forward, making it a better fit against a wall, a pergola, or as the anchor of an outdoor living room.
Most models here are prefabricated units shipped as a single piece or a small number of panels, rather than a masonry structure built on site. That keeps installation closer to a fire pit table (level ground, a gas line or propane tank, sometimes a non-combustible pad) than to a full construction project.
Choose based on how the space is used: a fireplace against a wall or under a covered patio for a defined living room feel, or a freestanding model where a fire pit's open design isn't what you're after.
